I absolutely agree. I used to live in Turkey and over there History textbooks teach about the Turks invading from Central Asia (and conquering the Greeks, among plenty of others) and that they were kin to the Mongols. The modern Turkish people are directly descended from these warriors, so they say. The irony is that in the region I was in - Izmir, formerly Smyrna - everything - the faces of the people, the food, the weather, the culture, was pure Mediterranean and very, very Greek specifically. What happened was that in the Middle Ages and even later, local Greeks converted to Islam and raised their children to speak only Turkish (which indeed came from Central Asia). Genetically, most Turks in Turkey have very little Central Asian ancestry. I'm very sure this process of language replacement happened very quickly and in many places all over the world including ancient India.
